HSE Recognised First Aid Courses in the East Midlands Appointed Person at Work - 1/2 Day Course Basically an appointed person is someone who is chosen to take charge when someone is injured or falls ill, including calling an ambulance
if required and to look after the first-aid equipment, eg restocking the first-aid box.
Appointed persons should only give first aid for which they have been
trained. This would realistically include scene assessment, personal protective barriers (use of gloves and face masks) together with Primary Care (immediate life threatening events: no breathing, no heartbeat, severe bleeding etc).
Our Appointed Person at Work / First Responder course exceeds the basic HSE requirements and includes the Primary Care element as recommended.
Remember that an appointed person should be available at all times people are at work on site
- this may mean appointing more than one.
The Appointed Person at Work / First Responder course can be completed in 1/2 day or one evening. It may also be combined with a Manual Handling Course to make a compete day.
